Just photos

Just a few more pictures: the weather here has been in the 70's and it is amazing.  We went to the park on Sunday and Davy walked all the way there and halfway back, 2.5 miles.
I love this nativity set Claire gave me a few years ago.  It is my favorite thing to unwrap and set up.  I also made some bunting and stockings this year.

I set Danny in this green chair and he gave me these huge grins.  He is such a happy kid and is now 5 months old.  Time is flying!

Thanksgiving

The last couple of weeks we have found that when Stephen leaves the state chaos reigns supreme at our house.  He has been busy doing interviews and we have been busy creating and cleaning up little catastrophes.  The week before Thanksgiving we had a car crash, hours on the phone with insurance, a few emotional hurdles (I haven't heard from stephen in 3 hours! He must be in peril!), and I locked my keys/phone/purse in the rental 30 minutes from home. I was very happy to have Stephen return safely and help restore order.  The crazy week did help me realize all that I am lucky to have and to be more thankful in the process of our day to day lives.

I am so glad to have these two boys:
A husband who cooks a fantastic turkey and who literally springs out of bed to run 3.5 miles every morning and doesn't stop moving all day. He spends all his post work hours playing Lux Luther vs. Superman and helping me chase and clean up after two kiddos.
A happy, clean, and peaceful home:
Matching jammies and the 7:30 bedtime that follows.
(smile Danny!)

Superman

Davy has taken his role as Superman very seriously.  He will not answer to Davy, only Superman.  He uses his laser beam power (squints) and super freezy breath all day long.  He has worn this outfit pretty much everyday of October.  I am no longer mommy, I am Louis Lane and Dad is his are enemy Lux Luthor.  However, he will do anything for me I ask if I tack on "for the good of metropolis" at the end. Example: "Davy go put your socks away...for the good of Metropolis!" Works like a charm.
He has learned to say "For Truth, Justice, and the American way!"
Davy and Weston had a blast hanging out in character.
These two chill babies hung out together and posed quite nicely; unlike their older counterparts.

Davy and Benjamin really bonded over their matching costumes.  They went trick or treating together and at the ward party I overheard their very earnest conversation about how to catch that evil pirate and if that would "save the day".
Danny looked great in his costume too.  I was taking this picture when Davy said, "Oh, I know what would make that cuter!"
Me!
Agreed.

The leaves are beginning to change and the weather is perfect out this week.  We went to the botanical gardens down the street to feed these guys:
The goal is to drop it into their gaping mouths before the ducks can swim over and steal it.

Davy is learning to play board games and it has been really nice to play a game with a defined goal and winner. We play a game we made up called "take away" with Rummikub maybe four times a day.  You fill up the holder randomly with tiles and call out which number you should both throw back into the box.  The one out of tiles first is the winner.  Sometimes it is the excitement highpoint in my day.

He has also stopped taking naps but still gets pretty tired in the afternoons.  One day this week he came to play right next to me as I was doing the dishes. We were chatting and I left for just a minute to find a completely still and softly snoring blanket.  He slept like this for an hour and a half.
We carved pumpkins a little early because Stephen is going out of town for the next couple of weekends.  It has been really fun to decorate with Davy; we put up spooky bats and spooky spiders.
Danny is still a joyful baby.
It has been fun to compare photos with Davy's baby pictures.

Future baby names we are considering:  Donny, Dewy, and Dory if its a girl.

A little personality and some potty training

Danny is starting to smile a little more.  Twice this week I have heard him stirring awake and gone over to pick him up to have him greet me with a big grin.
We have also been potty training Davy for two or three weeks now.  Davy is doing really well and drinking copious amounts of water since he gets a small handful of chocolate chips for every job well done.  Blue bear is not doing quite as well.
Davy has also been sick with a cold for a few days and when he coughs he says, "oh, excuse me, I have a little frog in my mouth."

Today is the first day the whole house has been simultaneously clean since Danny was born.  That of course meant that dinner was not made and Davy watched Sense and Sensibility wearing only his snow boots.  We have been recording some of our favorite Davy lines recently, these have made the list this week.

At lunch:  "You rolled up my ham?  You are PERFECT!"
At the Zoo:  "A zebra!  We must be at the end of the zoo!" (alphabetically speaking, yes.)
In response to What are you afraid of?: "I think I'll pick robots, and tornado sirens, and maybe thunder. but mostly robots."

We have a ton of tornado warnings here and live quite close to the siren.  Every time it goes off we end up spending 30 minutes under a blanket together.  If I say, "I think it is all over" he will say, "I think we should wait one more minute, just to make sure".

He also talks all the time about Blinklochs, a creature that has become his arch enemy.  In case you are unfamiliar with Blinklochs Davy can describe them for you.

-they are really big
-so many eyes
-super many legs
-they eat puppies
-they wear big clothes
-they don't have ears either
-they eat just puppies

 Turtle Park

We also love our little Danny.  He likes to drift off to sleep right around midnight, which lines up with my ideal bedtime too.  Unfortunately, he likes to wake up at 2 and 5 and then 6 for good, which he makes up for with plenty of napping during the day.  I have been spending a lot of time suggesting any game that involves lying on the floor.

Almost two months

Davy has been a great big brother.  He loves to say "Mr. Fingers!" and tickle Danny all over.  Danny's response has been "blank stare" but in a couple of months that will change. It has been a whirlwind two months and has gone by so fast.  It was great to have Stephen home by noon most days. He just started a pathology rotation that has longer hours, but he is still home in time for dinner and bedtime.  We must have earned some good karma with Davy because so far Danny has been great.
Stephen blessed Danny a couple of weeks ago and we took a picture before church.  Yes, Davy is wearing a construction worker's hat for our first family-of-four picture.  No, he did not actually wear it to church.  He likes to play "What impractical item shall I request to take to church". This weeks requests:  A pizza pan, his buzz lightyear outfit, and a backhoe.

First two weeks

Things feel like they are settling back into a routine here at home.  We are still having sandwiches and cereal for dinner, but we're okay with that.  Baby Daniel has been a champion sleeper and has been really chill when he is awake.  It has been so fun seeing Davy as a big brother.  He talks a lot about his brother and even gives him supporting roles in our pretend games.  Daniel fulfills these roles by sleeping in his swing.

Baby Olsen

Daniel Patrick Olsen is finally here! Born on the 29th at 11:50.  He weighed 6 lbs 8 oz.  and measures in at 18 inches long.  He has been a sweet and sleepy baby.  We are already home from the hospital and feeling pretty cozy.

Meanwhile, back at home, Davy and Mimi have been watching and playing Zorro.  Mimi has taught Davy some excellent sword techniques.  Thanks for all your help Mom!
